#what matters now:

This paper presents an analysis of information flow that is created by protesters with the use of digital media tools, particularly focusing on the events of “Gezi” protests, through the concept of citizen journalism. Since very first days of the protests, mainstream media has denied to broadcast news about the events, or has executed auto-censorship. This state of lacking of data transformed itself to alternative data resources by the help of social media networks, websites, etc. where the audience/citizen became the author of the data. “What matters now?” is the notorious question of masses who demand the right to freedom of expression. It seems that the question can only be answered by the society itself. Gathering information by interviewing with imagemakers, social media admins, lawyers, (etc.), and conducting market research on the tools of the trade might propagate new strategies that is needed to think of for “citizen journalists”
